Is Twitter About to Tweet?
Twitter is everywhere, Twitter is now. What Twitter isn’t is categorical, and in some search engines eyes that makes it about as useless as blog comment and trackback spam.
Still in its infancy, Twitter may successfully transition the gap between social fad and a fully useful tool for the masses. I wish them the best in this endeavor.
Whether or not a company should engage in Twittering, should like any other social media engagement include a well thought out plan of execution.
Tweets, unlike a blog post are limited to 140 characters or less per tweet and this leaves little room for context, and plenty of room to be taken ‘out of context’. Tweets are instant and may circulate to millions of people in mere minutes and even seconds. Also, by who and when tweets are made are also important. Tweeting something that might result in a rush to the companies website, or company phone banks when not staffed for the flood could be disastrous to a companies image.
Establish your Twitter identity now, or someone may snag your name. Twitter support has been known to be very quick to address such issues but you don’t want to have to expend the time if you can avoid it.
Be safe and Happy Twittering!
